PTS VI: Mojo Reacquisition

Just a short post to prove that I'm still actively involved in painting miniatures (or prepping and priming them at any rate). I was really in the groove during October hobby-wise. Zomtober was a blast and I was unusually productive both painting and blogging.

That all came to a screeching halt with November and the revelation that Center Stage Miniature's Tome of Horrors Kickstarters were little more than a ponzi scheme. All the smart kids are now of the opinion that funds from those campaigns were diverted to fulfilling the earlier Demons and Devils Kickstarter (LINK).

I'm not a smart kid. I'm just a dope who got swindled.

This concludes the "woe is me" portion of the program.

The bottom line is that my brushes sat idle all month as my heart really wasn't into painting. Hopefully I'm emerging from this fraud-induced funk. Time will tell. If nothing else, there are a few items now on the table awaiting paint.

The Otherworld pack-bearer is part of The Helping Hand Challenge and should be done on time. I also have two minis (not shown) in the works for Naval November, the creation of Roy Williamson over at R.W.'s Hobby Blog.

A sinister form glides behind the unsuspecting pack-bearer.

  1. The same thing happened to me with the Drake Kickstarter. They did a second KS without finishing the first KS. Final result-they're a quarter of a million dollars richer and we have no mini's. NEVER AGAIN!

I know it's a bummer, but it's good to see you pick up the brushes again!

    1. Anne, I was in the first Drake one myself right up until halfway through Salute when I overspent at the show and had to pull out (via my phone). I wasn't aware it had turned so very sour (indeed I thought the starter sets were now out for general release) and I'm really sorry to hear that. I thought the minis were superb sculpts, especially the dragons, and think your painting of them would have been sensational to say the least.

    2. Thanks Anne. Bummer sums it up quite nicely.

I'm sorry about your Drake experience. Guess we both have our own Kickstarter horror stories now.

    3. @Blaxkleric-the second KS was clearly a case of fraud. Not one mini was made, he just took the money and put it in his pocket. He's also committing fraud on the Webstore. Several people I know ordered some mini's and never got them. He's committing fraud there as well.

@Finch-I'm into one right now that I'm not entirely certain will deliver either. From here on out I'm only going to do a KS if it's by someone I've had a good experience with in the past.

  2. Genuinely gutted you suffered from Kickstarter burn but delighted to see you back at the table Finch. I appreciate I've only followed you for a short while but I've found your blog to truly be inspirational and help gee me along. Glad you're back to painting :-) As an aside I thought at first your "Sinister form" was from "50 Fathoms" but surely that's not a Mantic Chovar psychic?

    1. Thanks, Blaxkleric. I thoroughly enjoy your blog too. Your efforts, as well as those the many others I follow, mean there's always something cool to see in our patch of the blogosphere.

I saw the Chovar psychic at my LGS recently. Cool mini. I was sorely tempted but resisted the urge to add it to the lead pile.

  3. Ouch! In my naivety, I hadn't realised such things could happen - I will need to be a title more circumspect with what I back in future. That said I'm looking forward to the Otherworld miniatures you have on the desk and especially that spectral thing caught lurking in the last photograph.

    1. No more naive than I was, Michael. The risk of loss on a theoretical level and actually experiencing said loss are two totally different animals, I've learned. The fact that the fine folks at Kickstarter facilitate misbehavior by others, take their 15% up front, then hide behind a wall of legalisms when the sh*t hits the fan is especially galling.

  4. That pack bearer is my favorite mini from the OW Hirelings and Henchmen set, and it's one of their absolute best overall. Can't wait to see your take on him. My own is getting ready to be zombait. :)

    1. One of my favorites too.

Zombait, you say? Sounds like an unenviable position to find oneself in. Such is a henchman's lot.

  5. Well that fucking sucks ass dude! Glad to see you've come out the other side. Live and learn and abide.

    1. The lips-to-sphincter reference hits the ol' nail on the head, Bob... and yet, I must abide.

  6. I echo Bob's comments Sorry that you seem to have been stung I imagine it leaves a very sour taste in ones mouth. Its coming upto December and the holiday period hopefully that will bring some cheer and some new toys in your stockings. A bit of Star Wars on the telly should get the creative juices flowing!

  7. For me, November and December is also becoming extremely unproductive months hobby-wise more so when my son is on his holidays and I have to make sure I set aside quality family time.

    1. Family trumps miniature painting. (Or so I've been told. Still not sure I'm entirely on-board with this concept. ;) )

  8. Well, it looks like you'll be more productive than me, on the old Naval November theme. Not a great thing for the blog creator to write, I know :(
I'll keep tuned and see how it goes ...
