My attention's been elsewhere lately and any semblance of miniature-painting productivity has flown right out the window. I took steps towards overcoming my inertia by pressing forward today with FD's Dispater. A clean sculpt by Ian Mountain that offers the triple challenge of NMM, object source lighting, and freehand in one 28mm package.
The WIP pics show the mini after the application of washes for shading. Further progress has been made since.
Astonishing stuff Finch... Just simply breath-taking painting, and "one 28mm package" which contains three aspects I avoid like the plague ;-) You certainly set an incredibly high bar for me to aspire to. Great painting.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Simon. Freehand painting continues to be my nemesis. Keeping it simple here.
DeleteWow. Superb!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Gordon.
Delete"NMM, object source lighting, and freehand", rather you than me, but looking superb already!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michael. My freehand's still pretty rudimentary. The OSL came together more easily this time than in past attempts.
DeleteBeautiful work, Finch
ReplyDeleteWith having one foot and one hoof, which will he have to see more often ... The chiropodist or a farrier? :D
Roy @ http://nevermindthejankers.blogspot.co.uk/
Thank you, Roy. Not sure about the whole chiropodist vs farrier question. One thing's certain... he saves a lot of money on socks.
DeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated, Jay.
DeleteThat OSL is superb. Not overdone at all, but still very dramatic. It has an almost "illustrative" feel to it -- which goes really well with the clean miniature and the equally clean painting style. It reminds me of one of the better cover paintings from a Dragon Magazine from the early 1980's.
ReplyDeleteForgive my ignorance - who is the producer FD?
Thank you, Mathew. The sculpt is very reminiscent of a David Trampier illustration in the old Monster Manual so I had a solid 70s/80s foundation from the start.
DeleteFD = Fractured Dimensions. Should be available again soon through Mortal Arrow: https://www.facebook.com/mortalarrowgames
Looking good so far Finch. Nice OSL too. I sorta given up on it. Nowadays my take on OSL is just a wash of that colour on the area of effect. LoL Lame I know.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kuan.
DeleteI have a love/hate relationship with OSL myself. Some miniatures just seem to demand it though. Here it was crucial in selling the fact that our diabolical friend holds in his hand a fireball rather than an orange turd (which is basically what it looked like prior to the OSL).
