When the Sea Shall Give up her Dead

And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.
Revelation 20:13

The first Sunday of Zomtober has arrived and it's time to roll out my first mini. I've gone with a maritime theme this year... three Wyrd aquatic zombies and a "boss" character are queued up. The first to receive paint is the bloated fellow shown here.

There's lots of rusted metal to be painted on the Wyrd minis. Hopefully the sea-green fleshtone (aside from being apropos) contrasts well with it.

The front of the mini is sculpted with repeated ridges and furrows over the entirety of the face, torso, and pants. This didn't leave much room for transitions between highlights, midtones, and shadows in some cases. The back of the mini was considerably less busy and yielded better results with less work.

I sculpted some sea-life on the bases of all the minis. This should provide the chance to add some splashes of color (albeit in washed-out, undead appropriate shades).

  1. That is a cool mini and very atmospheric paint scheme. Really captures that underwater undead feel. I love it!

  2. Nice work dude. The additions bring the base to life nicely neat idea!

    1. Thanks, Simon. I've done fungi on subterranean bases before... coral and whatnot isn't all that different from a sculpting standpoint.

  3. Excellent! You've really captured the maritime feel with those colours and the additions of the sculpted bits. Great stuff.

    1. Thank you, Roy. By happy coincidence I've got a couple minis that missed the cut for Zomtober that would work well for the "Naval November" your planning.

    1. Thanks. Agreed on Wyrd. A lot of cool, slightly demented stuff among their minis.

    1. I've not read the book. Must confess to being more familiar with the works of Mel Brooks than Max.

    1. I meant ... reflection of sea ripples underwater. It looks good regardless.

    2. Thank you, sir. Any sea-ripple effect is a happy accident caused by my attempt to keep the highlights bright and the shadows dark, plus a mini with a lot of parallel creases/ridges.
