The Rotting Sea

About, about, in reel and rout
The death-fires danced at night;
The water, like a witch's oils,
Burnt green, and blue and white.

I looked upon the rotting sea,
And drew my eyes away;
I looked upon the rotting deck,
And there the dead men lay.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

As promised, better pictures of this week's Zomtober miniature:

Some WIPs:

The attachment for the anchor-blade was replaced with part of a paperclip.

More fun with green stuff.
Next up: the leader of this aquatic ensemble.

    1. Thanks Bob. A lot of colors came crashing together in a small space on this one: blue coat, green skin. rust chains, brown coveralls, purple crab. All but the skin had a lot of grey mixed in to desaturate them.

    1. Thanks, Simon. Glad you like him.

      Considering the "quality" of yesterday"s photo, I had nowhere to go but up.

  4. Finch ... these sea-based horror pieces you are doing look absolutely fantastic and what's more each one seems to better the previous one which by the way is not meant to demean your earlier work. I can't out my finger on it but the colors you used here are so appropriate to the subject matter (as was the previous ones) and it looks great. ^_^

    1. Thanks, 4EM. The decision to go "sea-horror" came late but I'm quite enjoying it.

      Some grey added to most colors and frequent use of common "zombie" colors for highlights (Reaper's Bloodless Skin, and Moldy Skin mostly) helped to pull everything together.

  5. Absolutely stonkingly good stuff. Could easily have been one of Blake's crew on the Elizabeth Dane, waiting for revenge on Antonio Bay. Great stuff and glad I found this blog :-)
