PTS XV: Wash Day

Copious washes have been applied to FD's bearded devils. In the shaded basecoat technique this is done to establish and intensify shadows. The trick is to do it without simultaneously obliterating the mids and highlights from previous steps (damage, yes... obliterate, no).

I used two different washes (a GW Violet/Greenshade mix and Vallejo Flesh Wash) on the shield. These were allowed to run together while wet for a grungy, rusty effect.

I quite like the result. Now to see if I can avoid slopping paint on it going forward (fingers crossed, everyone).

Next up: touchups and refinements to the aforementioned mids and highlights.

PTS VI: Mojo Reacquisition

Just a short post to prove that I'm still actively involved in painting miniatures (or prepping and priming them at any rate). I was really in the groove during October hobby-wise. Zomtober was a blast and I was unusually productive both painting and blogging.

That all came to a screeching halt with November and the revelation that Center Stage Miniature's Tome of Horrors Kickstarters were little more than a ponzi scheme. All the smart kids are now of the opinion that funds from those campaigns were diverted to fulfilling the earlier Demons and Devils Kickstarter (LINK).

I'm not a smart kid. I'm just a dope who got swindled.

This concludes the "woe is me" portion of the program.

The bottom line is that my brushes sat idle all month as my heart really wasn't into painting. Hopefully I'm emerging from this fraud-induced funk. Time will tell. If nothing else, there are a few items now on the table awaiting paint.

The Otherworld pack-bearer is part of The Helping Hand Challenge and should be done on time. I also have two minis (not shown) in the works for Naval November, the creation of Roy Williamson over at R.W.'s Hobby Blog.

A sinister form glides behind the unsuspecting pack-bearer.

PTS IV: Very Hush Hush

The Helping Hand Challenge has commenced with the first of twelve minis under the brush. Regrettably, I was unable to sneak a WIP image past the censors. Confounded censors... some rubbish about national security and saving pictures for the big reveal at the end of the month.

Who am I to argue?

PTS III: Owl the News That's Fit to Print

Here follows a very brief post showing the state of my paint-table and its current occupant, an Otherworld Miniatures Owlbear.

This guy's been sidetracked for quite a while. The fur is to my liking and basically done. A few other details (i.e. whether to paint some sort of pattern on the feathers) still need to be sorted out.

Paint Table Saturday II: Postcards from Siberia

If it's Saturday it must be time to lament how little I've done hobby-wise of late. Weather's been crap, work's been busy (in part because the weather's been crap), had a bit of a cold (likely due to the weather being crap), feels like I've spent most of my free time shoveling snow (definitely due to the weather being crap). Did I mention that the weather weather's been crap?

Luckily things aren't nearly as bad as all that. The right team won the Superbowl and some progress has been made on a trio of zombies. In keeping with PTS custom, a picture of my workspace:

Seen here are a doombringer from Studio 2 Publishing flanked by two Heresy zombies. For the purposes of the The Fiend Folio Project, they serve as a Revenant and two Coffer Corpses. In particular, the Studio 2 miniature's hooded cloak jibes well with Russ Nicholson's Revenant illustration from the FF.

A more detailed WIP of the three as they now stand:

An earlier WIP of the Revenant with just the base colors laid down:

A 28mm pinkie; easily the smallest thing I've ever sculpted:

Right on cue it's started snowing again. No lie. Like I said, the weather's been crap.

Paint Table Saturday I

The esteemed Mr. Audrey of 28mm Victorian Warfare describes Paint Table Saturday, the creation of Sofie's Paint Blog, as a "delightfully simple idea". I agree, and as someone who is not infrequently described as delightfully simple himself, I reckon it's time to jump on this particular bandwagon.

Therefore, and without further ado, my paint-table:

It might be better described as my prep-table at the moment. The three based minis at center are from Otherworld, Studio 2, and Ral Partha. The hodgepodge of minis to the right are awaiting basing.
